What does the free version not do?
Free Elementor is a page builder, nothing more. It has no theme builder, so your header, footer, blog archive and single-post layout still come from your theme. Its form widget is basic. No popups. No way to pull dynamic data (a custom field, a related-posts list, a filtered query) into a design. For a one-off landing page, free is fine. For a real site, you need a pro layer.
What does Elementor Pro add?
- Theme Builder: design the header, footer, 404, archives and single templates visually.
- Form widget: multi-step forms, integrations, conditional logic.
- Popups: with display and trigger rules.
- Dynamic tags: bind widgets to post fields, ACF fields, site settings.
- Loop Builder: design a repeating item once and render it from any query.
- A large library of pro widgets and templates.
For most local and small business sites, this is everything you need.
What does Crocoblock add on top?
Crocoblock is a set of plugins (JetEngine, JetElements, JetForms, JetPopup, JetSmartFilters and more). It covers the same ground as Elementor Pro and then goes deeper: JetEngine builds custom post types, meta boxes, relations and complex dynamic listings without code; JetSmartFilters gives you AJAX front-end filtering; JetForms is a strong form builder. If your site is content-heavy or data-driven, a directory, a property listing, a resource library, Crocoblock does in an afternoon what would otherwise need custom development.
Which costs more?
They are in the same ballpark on a yearly single-site licence, and both offer multi-site and lifetime tiers. Neither is expensive relative to a build. The real cost difference is time: Elementor Pro is quicker to learn and has more tutorials; Crocoblock is more capable but takes longer to get fluent in.
Which should you choose?
- Standard business, local or service site: Elementor Pro. Simpler, well supported, does the job.
- Directory, listings, membership, anything data-driven: Crocoblock.
- You want the lightest stack and no yearly pro-plugin cost: use Bricks, which includes the equivalent features in its core licence.
What happens to the licence if we stop working together?
It is registered to your site and it stays with you. You renew it yearly to keep updates and support. If you are on a maintenance plan with hosting, I cover the Elementor Pro licence for as long as that plan runs. Either way, nothing about the licence locks you to me.
